Il se trouve \u00e0 85 km \u00e0 l\u2019Est de Gafsa, \u00e0 100 km au Sud de Sidi Bouzid, \u00e0 105 km \u00e0 l\u2019Ouest de Sfax, \u00e0 100 km au Nord-Ouest de Gabes, \u00e0 30 km de Maknassy et a 27 km de Mezzouna. II a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 1980 et couvre une superficie de 16488 hectares dont 8804 sont sous protection int\u00e9grale. Le parc fait partie du r\u00e9seau des r\u00e9serves de la biosph\u00e8re de l\u2019UNESCO depuis 1977.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le parc comprend trois zones de mise en d\u00e9fens int\u00e9grale. II comprend aussi une zone d\u2019occupation temporaire de 2400 hectares o\u00f9 vivent environ 200 familles, ainsi qu\u2019une zone tampon situ\u00e9e entre la zone d\u2019occupation temporaire et les zones de protection int\u00e9grale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le parc s\u2019\u00e9tend dans les bioclimats arides inferieurs a variante temp\u00e9r\u00e9e et fra\u00eeche, jusque dans le semi-aride inferieur a variante fra\u00eeche.
